The Capt. Williamson Memorial Government College in Baghmara celebrated its 33rd foundation day with an event. The college has decided to expand its campus facilities. This was possible due to the grant of Rs. 5 crore given under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
At the event, the speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Thomas S. Sangma inaugurated the plaque for the upcoming project. The education minister of Meghalaya, Rakkam A. Sangma addressed the audience and explained the importance of new academic infrastructure to enhance the learning experiences.
He said that teachers play an important role in providing well-rounded education. The learning should focus on intellectual and spiritual growth. The physical infrastructures achieve their purpose only if they can deliver meaningful educational outcomes. He asked the education system across the state to focus on a knowledge-centered approach.
The minister was satisfied with the launch of the college's new website and construction and stressed the need for quality education in the area. He said that there is no need to play the blame game instead all should work together to strengthen the schools.
The event was attended by many dignitaries and the speaker, Thomas A Sangma explained the importance of celebrating the college’s foundation day and the new infrastructure project. He said that they are not just constricting walls but shaping the dreams of the community that will educate the future generations. He blamed the faculty and staff for their decision to the college's growth. He encouraged the students to aim for excellence and become inspiring individuals of princess for their communities.
Higher education
There are several Government colleges in Meghalaya that offer higher education courses. A variety of STEM and on-STEM courses are offered which cater to the different interests of the students. The state is located in the biodiversity areas and students can enjoy a beautiful environment.
The institute offers quality higher education which is at par with the global standards. The learning methodology used teaches the students to think analytically and logically. The medium of instruction in the courses is the English language.
